Job Description:
At Hofstra University, intellectual curiosity is not just
aspirational - it is central to how we engage on a daily basis.
Hofstra faculty work within a diverse scholarly community committed
to student success, intellectual discovery, free inquiry,
inclusivity, and collaboration. Enrolling more than 10,000
students, Hofstra offers students an array of undergraduate and
graduate academic programs spanning the arts, humanities, sciences,
business, engineering, law, health care, communications, and more.
Our accomplished faculty collaborate with students to explore
interdisciplinary questions and produce innovative research that
lays the foundation for future personal and professional success.
With a beautiful campus in Hempstead, NY, Hofstra's location
seamlessly merges the tranquility of coastal suburban living with
the boundless opportunities of nearby New York City.
A variety of soft skills and experience may be required for the
following role Please ensure you check the overview below
carefully.
Hofstra University seeks candidates who will contribute to a
supportive climate for students, faculty, and staff of all
identities and backgrounds. We especially encourage women, people
of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, veterans, and people
with disabilities to apply. The Department of Psychology at Hofstra
University invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track
positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor,
beginning in September 2025. The positions are primarily for the
M.A. Program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and the Ph.D.
Program in Applied Organizational Psychology, although some
undergraduate teaching is available as well. The M.A. program is an
applied program that prepares students for careers in such areas as
human resources, training and development, management and
organization development, and market research. Our applied Ph.D.
program also places a strong emphasis on research methods and
statistics, as well as topics relating to human behavior in
organizations. Students in our programs are active in SIOP, produce
scholarly publications and conference presentations, and make
practical contributions through local internships. Alumni go on to
have impactful careers in top organizations and academic settings.
In addition to graduate and possibly undergraduate teaching in I/O
areas, the position requires the development of a research program
and supervision of doctoral student research. The successful
applicant will have completed a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational
Psychology or a related area and will demonstrate a strong record
of accomplishment in research and teaching, commensurate with rank.
Applicants for the position should have strong expertise in
research methods and statistics and one or more specialty areas of
I/O Psychology. In addition to the ability to teach advanced
statistics (e.g., psychometrics, structural equation modeling,
multi-level analyses) and research methods, preferred candidates
produce scholarship in areas that are unique from and/or complement
existing faculty members' areas of expertise. Applicants who study
occupational health psychology, leadership, or the changing nature
of work, for example, are of particular interest. We value
diversity in all forms and seek applicants with a variety of
experiences, interests, and specialties. Given the applied focus of
the programs, it is desirable for faculty to incorporate applied
topics and projects into their courses and mentoring of students.
To accommodate student internships, classes are taught primarily in
the evenings, leaving days free to work on research, service, etc.
Practical experience working with organizations is desirable, but
not required. There is a variety of collaborative research
resources available to psychology faculty on and off campus. A
qualified candidate may have shared access to the department's new
neurophysiology lab, which houses a B-Alert X24 20-channel mobile
EEG system, BIOPAC functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS)
system and BIOPAC equipment for measurement of skin conductance and
heart rate variability. Faculty can also request access to the
Behavioral Research in Business Lab, which includes 27 workstations
with cameras, audio/voice equipment, eye-tracking capabilities, and
a variety of other biometric options. The School of Engineering is
currently building a big data analysis lab with an HPC/AI cluster
and HPE parallel file system; the initial build (opening in 2023)
includes a two-node NVIDIA GPU cluster with plans for a further 2-4
nodes upon grant funding. Hofstra University is located on Long
Island in close proximity to New York City (25 miles east of
Manhattan), with its wealth of business, entertainment, and
cultural opportunities. Our faculty and students have diverse
backgrounds and we welcome diverse applicants. For more information
